BROWSER TURMOIL

Good grief.... decided to take a peep at the blog and have a little wander down memory lane...and it was gone..! Thought to find it maybe covered in fine dust and a cobweb or two - but in fact none of the other accounts were there either. And a blatant notice at the top informed me that my browser wasn't supported anymore. The cheek of it..!

Stupefying - all the old technology fear came rushing back... shiver..!
Sensations of 'they can't do this to me', stirred within the old Geri bosom and the urge to click buttons reawakened with a roar! (Bit like the old dinosaur in my 8th. Post. 'Holes and Dinosaurs'. Heh!).

Anyway, soon discovered that there are loads of browser update options and something called 'Windows Upgrade Advisor', that could advise me about upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. However, after being instructed halfway through the process to download something else (?) in order to allow WUA to complete downloading itself (????) it would seem that this old computer is not entirely compatible for the 'jump'!

What to do? Google Chrome kept popping up and insisting it would solve all my woes.....but.
I'm inclined to avoid 'pushy' things. So decided to investigate updating Internet Explorer. No good. It told me to find out how many 'bits' I'm using and how much RAM memory etc., but after searching through My Computer for this golden info', the IE website got deleted and I couldn't remember just how I'd found it in the first place.

Oh well, so in the end Google won. Though not the Chrome. Not entirely. I've now downloaded the Google Frame for I.E. whatever that is - but happily (!) can now access all the old accounts! And there was 'Ageing Ungracefully', resting quietly in a corner and asking: 'Crikey ducky, where on earth have you been these last two years!

I don't think I'm back for good - don't really feel I could give my best yet - but it was lovely to browse through all the old Posts and to re-read all the lovely comments from old blog friends.

So AU, I shall kiss you a fond farewell again for now - and get back to my 'crunches'. No, not 'crunchies' (!) have given up the old chocolate and cake and stuff and am now exercising and trying to get healthy. Have even joined a drawing/painting class to discover other skills and give the Geri hippocampus a boost. Not quite sure how that's going. I forget things.... dipped my paint brush in my coffee the other day - and when the teacher gets to me (she walks around behind us to observe progress and it gives me the shuddering heebiejeebies...ugh) she stops, goes all quiet - and sighs....
Huh!

O.K. good folk, that's it for now. Take care. Cheers!

My patience is rewarded. I have been sitting here quietly waiting for something to appear.

I gave up on Windows and all its damned updates that do nothing except break my heart and computer. I went over to that Linuxy thing. Not a single regret!

Don't leave it so long before the next one. OK?

Geri! How nice to hear from you!

What a coincidence. I've been slacking a bit on the blogging front, too, and it's also because I've been trying to get a bit fitter. I'm now treadmilling daily, and using the horsey machine and walking out with the dogs and just generally staying on my feet more and doing more stuff.

I've joined a Handcrafting group and decided to try knitting again and all. AND I've started cooking again, which is a tad counterproductive when it comes to the 'getting fitter' part because home-made food just tastes so much better..

Oh, well!

Good luck with your painting classes. I bet the teacher sighs because she's so dispirited about her own output when faced with your innate talent! ;)

Hi Jay, lovely to hear from you! Good for you girl, you get in there! Walking the dogs is fine exercise and good companionship too. (Wish I had a horsey thing.. my more rigorous exercise depends mainly on 'Shankses Pony' (!) and 'crunches'. Terrible things. Bend your midriff completely double.

Er yes.. cooking lovely food whilst trying to loose weight, does sound a bit counter productive, haha! Still, I suppose you could always knit yourself a 'chocolate bar', when the urge to binge kicks in!? (I used to know someone who knitted food. Straight up! Dolls, snowmen, christmas trees, food...you name it, she could knit it)!

Anyway, keep up the good work and thanks for the encouragement with the painting efforts. Not sure how deep that innate talent is buried - but I'll keep searching!

Cheers!

Well I never! What a treat to find you at home, Geri

I'm well-impressed at you solving the browser problem.

Woman of Steel! That's what you are. I'd have buckled at the first hurdle and gone whimpering for help.

The blogosphere's not the same without you, Geri. Not that I've been blogging much... isn't it amazing how much more you can get done when you're not glued to a computer screen?

I bought myself a good old fashioned bicycle recently and have been enjoying seeing the world from a completely new angle... much easier on creaking knees and hips too!

Please come back again soon and tell us in your inimitable style, more on AU!

Steph x

Hi Grandad! You are indeed a patient man and thank you for your comment!

Linux aye? Well I'll definately take a look at it. Seems that every time I turn on the old computer (which as you've noticed, isn't very often!) there's a new round of 'Window's update gremlins' just waiting to pounce and confuse the whole issue...

Still, ne' mind aye. It was grand to hear from you - and no, I won't leave it so long till next time Grandad! Take care.

Hi Steph,

How lovely to hear from you! Sorry this comment isn't under yours to me, but I'm afraid I accidently deleted my comment to Grandad and then tried to put it back and it ended up under yours(!) So then I copied Grandad's comment and put it under yours and then had to recopy my comment to him to put back under his and then found that I couldn't fit my comment to you under your comment to me!! Aagghh! Sob! Gnashing of teeth!
As you can see, its still one technical step forward and six backwards with me.
Still, hopefully you've scrolled down a bit and found this!
The bike sounds very adventerous. I hope that the different angles you are observing are from the saddle - and not from ground level after falling off!? Still, I can imagine that it is indeed much kinder to the hips and knees - and just think, cycling will give you lovely shapely, strong legs. (You'll be able to crack nuts with your thighs! Heehee! Just think what a party piece that will be...).

Bye for now. Take care.

Hi Geri, Hope you get this and it isn't lost in the ether - I haven't been around much lately - all the walking at work and fresh air let me almost comatose of an evening!!!

It was good to see your 'comeback' however fleeting - maybe I'll see one of your unique coffee stained paintings next time!!!

Hi Kate,

Nice to hear from you! I shall have to nip into your blog and see what this walking is all about(?) Sounds very healthy.
I saw your comment in my email and have popped in to the blog to answer you but the indominatable 'They' have altered the layout behind the scenes again and I'm not even sure if this is the right box to answer you...Can't find the dashboard anywhere.. Why can't things be left as they are? If it's not bust, don't fix it!
Toodle-oo (now how do I find my way out of here...mutter..)
