Woke briefly from winter hibernation this morning and poked my sleep grizzled head out of the Geri Atric cave… A watery sun struggled through the clouds to briefly touch my tongue. Other folk hold up their finger to test the wind. I stick out my tongue to test the sun. Don’t ask.
Not a soul to be seen, except for a row of seagulls, perched motionlessly on the roof of the building opposite. They eye me hungrily.
I’m feeling peckish too and rummage hopefully through my depleting store of nuts and berries. Hmm, not much left. Spring will have to come soon….
A brief visit to the computer to read online news - and also to see if my blog is still there. Does the Blog Host Company, or whatever it’s called, delete your blog if it is not contributed to regularly (?) Not much to report at the moment but it’s nice to know I have an outlet, for those rare moments of rambling inspiration.
(Almost) cuddled back on the settee now, with the telly droning in the background and eyelids drooping…
Dreams of emigrating to warmer climes. Dreams of eating a mountain of chocolate ice-cream. Dreams of being young and nubile again.
Those ravenous seagulls are gathering under my window – and have been joined by flocks of raucous crows. I throw them stale bread and watch them half kill each other.
I like birds.
I hate winter.

It's not winter I hate, it's February. I hate February. I shall hate February even more from here on in.
Go back to sleep. The sun will wake you when it shines through the window in April. ;)
WAKE-UP! Geri
Spring is here. The last few days in Ireland have been decidedly Spring-like with clear blue skies and watery sunshine. The daffodils and snowdrops are out and our first crocus has appeared this week.
How is your chest? You've been awfully quiet this last while. I was getting worried, I was.
I like your dreams, especially the young and nubile bit! I find when I get up from sitting these days, it often takes me quite a while to straighten up so I walk bent over until I can straighten out. I used to laugh at my parent's generation doing this but now, I don't find it one bit funny. Do you think L-O-T-S of chocolate ice-cream would fix this problem? ;-)
HI JAY ~ Yes indeed, I agree whole heartedly about February..grr... Try not to think about it.
Better just stay indoors and keep reminding ourselves of that hopeful little ditty: 'March winds and April showers, bring forth May flowers'.
Although what with 'global warming' sending even lower temperatures than last year (???) we'll soon have to be thinking up new seasonal tunes.
Think I'll take your very good advice and go back to sleep!
Ta-ta for now..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
HI STEPH ~ Huh? What? Yawn...
I hear you!
Still no daffodils, snowdrops and crocusus here in the Lowlands but I'm very glad to hear you've got them (if a wee bit jealous...!)
As for getting out of a chair - I straighten up like that too. It's best to do it slowly, favouring the hips (my right one cracks like a pistol shot if I do it too fast. Great party act though!).
I think chocolate ice-cream will cure anything! You can of course apply it directly to the hips - the cold numbs the pain and you don't gain extra weight doing it that way (bit sticky though).
P.S. Still a twinge now and then from the old ribs, but lungs seem OK. Got an appointment with the lung specialist tomorrow. (Hope the local seagulls and crows wake me up in time to go)!
Hi Geri,
I'm not surprised you're down with only nuts and berries to keep you going - indulge yourself in some comfort food, go on - its good fun and will make you feel better - that and an aromatic, candle-lit bath... spring is just around the corner, honest! x
Grr I am having trouble with your comments section today - don't know whether my comment got to you or not!!
The gist of it was - I'm not surprised you are feeling low with only nuts and berries to eat - try some comfort food - it 's great fun.
Also aromatic candle lit baths to lift the spirit - spring is just around the corner x
Hi Kate ~ Thanks for both your comments - haha! My blog keeps dropping off to sleep, but I'm glad you finally got through.
Hmm.. scented, candle-lit baths and comfort food. Great stuff!
You're right, hibernation and nuts and berries have only so much appeal. Its time to banish those winter blues!
Welcome back to the world beyond hibernation.
It seemed like a very long dreary winter.
Plenty of treats and comfort food is the way to go.
I am still in Dublin and volunteered for dinner duty... must go shopping pretty soon.
Hi Grannymar ~ Have just seen a video clip (on 'Darragh') of you, with a new toyboy at your feet!
How do you do it?!
Treats and comfort food aye?..Yum. I'll get onto it right away.
Watch yourself in Dublin GM. I hear (on the news) that there is a100,000 strong demonstration taking place in the City center. Take a bunch of toyboys for protection!
